COVID Protocols

The AYFL board is committed to the health and safety of all our programs participants. During a board meeting held in August the board discussed and voted on the following game day and illness protocols, based on recommendations provided by the Governor along with the OHSAA,  to keep our participants safe and healthy during this unprecedented season due to the current COVID - 19 pandemic. We urge all families to adhere to these guideline so that we can continue to have a season for all of our participants.

Parents and coaches are responsible for these checks, and must keep their child, or themselves, out if they have any symptoms.

Illness -

  • All players, coaches, volunteers, etc must have their temperature taken before all games and practices.  If there are ANY symptoms they should be out for 72 hours.  If tested, wait for result before return.

Protocol for positive player, coach, or family member -

  • Players, coaches, or others with close/direct contact within 24 hours of symptoms (fever over 100.4, cough, sore throat, difficulty breathing, headache, loss of taste/smell, etc) with the positive player must be out for 14 days.
  • If a sibling or parent is positive, or if the player’s symptoms and positive test happened before contact with the team (and was kept home) that player must be out for 14 days.  Coaches and Rep must be notified, and then the league and district.

Games -

  • Refs will not touch the ball, player that has the ball should give it to the center
  • Ref will throw down an orange bean bag - center will place the ball where the bag was
  • Have multiple balls, someone at line of scrimmage with extra balls in case needed
  • We will have cones out, 6 feet apart, each player will have their water, helmet, and mask at their cone.
  • When not in the game, they go get their mask put helmet down (player can wear gaiter and just pull up if needed - legal but counts as part of jersey for horsecollar tackles) They must have their mask on when not in game.
  • Coaches are encouraged to wear a gaiter (or leave mask pulled down when needed) so that they can pull it up during close contact and down when needed for active coaching
  • Wagon for water at 50 yard line - the 11 players in the game have their water in the wagon.  When you come out of game, have to get your water out of the wagon and back to your cone.
  • Cheerleaders also need to keep their water, etc, 6 feet apart
