COVID-19 Update

Dear Wildcat Families:
First, we hope that you are all healthy. These are very different times that we are living through and we hope that you are not only surviving, but THRIVING!!! Many people are wondering what we know about the potential for Football in the Fall. It is still a very “fluid” situation and we remain hopeful that we will play football in 2020.

Here is what we know. Baseball and other low contact sports are allowed to resume on May 26th under strict distancing guidelines for fans and some altered requirements for players and coaches. This is definitely encouraging for us. We will eagerly look on and hope for a safe and successful baseball season.

Here is where we have to make some educated guesses about the future and we must remain flexible.Unfortunately, this pandemic prevents us from making any medium to long term plans. The GCYFL (the league that we participate in) and Anderson Youth Football, are working together to forecast potential outcomes for our season. We are closely following the OHSAA and their governing body as they make decisions about 2020 Football. We hope to have more details about what our season will look like by June 15th.

The most likely outcomes are as follows:

- Practice begins July 13th as planned, with first games beginning on August 8th- Practice is delayed by 2 weeks and the first two weeks of the season are eliminated. This would make it a 6 game regular season down from 8. I could see a scenario where we have a series of delays before the start of the season. Each delay would cause a reduction in the number of regular season games.

- The absolute latest that we could see starting the season would be September 1. This would be a very reduced regular season, followed by playoffs.Understand that this is all guess work at this time. There is no play book for this sort of thing.

We are going to do our best to have football in 2020. But, as always, your child’s safety is our number one concern. Please try to hold scenario-based questions until we know more. I know this is difficult, but it is impossible for us to answer hypothetical questions until we have more clarity. We wanted to communicate with you proactively to give you some sort of update. I wish we knew more right now. We will certainly update you when more information becomes available.Until then, stay safe and optimistic!!!
